The Mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo is an active Catholic Church which houses The Shrine of the Blessed Junipero Serra. Originally founded on June 3, 1770 within the Monterey Presidio, it was moved to its present location in Carmel on August 24, 1771. It was the 2nd of California’s 21 missions, and considered one of the most beautiful by many people
